To achieve this, your speakers require a certain height and a specific distance from each other and the walls. Furniture placement and type, as well as architectural elements, all need to be considered. The key is minimizing interference from reflected sound.

Getting the Most from Your Home Audio System

There are a few tried-and-true rules to speaker placement that can set you on the right path. 

1. The Speaker Triangle: Place your speakers so they form an equilateral triangle that includes your listening position. This ensures the left and right channels reach your ears simultaneously.
2. Speaker Separation: For floorstanding speakers, the ideal distance is about 8 feet.
3. Toe-In or Not to Toe-In: Most speakers require angling toward you. Some manufacturers have designed speakers to be parallel to the wall, so be sure to check their specifications. 
4. Wall Distance: To minimize sound reflections, your speakers should be 2-3 feet away from the wall. Impossible? Place acoustic paneling on the wall behind the speakers.
5. Height: The tweeters should be level with your ears.
6. Room Arrangement: Keep a clear path from the speakers to your ears.
